Teething turns into a virus

week 23: Easter at the Carney's

Well, it's been several weeks, again, since I've written anything. I feel like I've had a really hard time with Amelia--she wasn't sleeping well at night and wasn't sleeping well during the day. It makes me tired just thinking of it!

On Saturday we went to my friend Jessica's Kentucky Derby party. It was great! There were half a dozen little kids there, fairly close to Amelia's age. She didn't interact much with them because she wasn't feeling well. Actually, the first part of the party she slept in her stroller in the spare bedroom. Thank god for the stroller! We use it (when we have to) in the middle of the night to get her to sleep.

At a Derby party on Saturday. Didn't know she had a virus!

So I know she's teething but this weekend I thought for sure she would get a tooth; she refused to nurse or take a bottle. I was so worried that she wasn't eating that I tried feeding her with a syringe and then giving her avocados as a last resort. I figured, they're high in fat and filled with lots of good stuff and it's perfect for a baby's first meal. She loved it!

Feeding Amelia milk through a syringe.
We didn't know why she wouldn't eat until Tuesday!

By Tuesday she was still upset but nursing again. I figured I should call the doctor and we got a same day appointment. It turns out she had a virus! Oh poor Amelia! Sore throat and little white bumps. But doc said it would go away in 3-4 days and since she had obviously had it for a few days, I think by Wednesday morning she was A.O.K.!

Things have been changing so much with Amelia. For instance, at 9 weeks of age, she decided she wanted a bottle during her nighttime feeding before bed. Now, at just under 6 months, she wants nothing to do with it. Just when I thought I had her figured out... haha

I love reading your blog, and of course I love seeing you both and playing with Amelia. Her little smile and noises melt my heart. I am one lucky grandma
