Amelia turns 6 months!

little baby cookie bird

I can hardly believe it. My little baby has turned 6 months and, though still a baby, seems so much more like a little girl!

She loves to sit up, and will do so quite well if you prop her up (she hasn't figured out how to go from laying down to sitting up yet.) And now she rolls over from her stomach to her back (much to my chagrin!) It's funny, she started doing this in the crib but not on the playmat until just a few days ago. Now, if you sit her up or lay her on her tummy, you might turn your head and find her on her back like a turtle. The next step, of course, is to turn from back to tummy.

Amelia is also eating avocados, which I mentioned in the last post. However, her new thing is she doesn't really want to eat it unless he can hold the spoon. I tried giving her bananas this morning, with that in mind, and either she just wasn't hungry or she's taking after her father who does not like bananas.

First time eating on 5/2/09! She really loves that avocado!

One major thing which has not changed is sleep. Amelia does not like to sleep! She wants to look at everything and seems too interested in the world to settle down. I'm tired just thinking about it! My friend's baby will, I kid you not, fall asleep in less than 2 minutes, no tears, no fussing! And he sleeps all night, every night. I'm sad just thinking about it!

Something new, which is now firmly set and not just a fluke, is Amelia's refusal to take the bottle. I think it happened when she was sick with a virus. The virus is gone but Amelia's dislike of the bottle has remained. I'm hoping that is just a passing phase and we can get her to take it again so I can leave her for more than a few hours or so Eric and I can occasionally go out on the weekend! I just purchased a sippy cup online and hope that will be the answer....

And one more thing... Amelia also doesn't seem to want to eat during waking hours; too much going on to focus! Of course I'm worried about how that's going to affect my milk supply (since it always seems to be in peril!) I have not mentioned it before, but my period has started back, this will be the third time already! It doesn't seem fair to nurse at night and STILL get my period! Bummer! That too affects the supply. Well, I shouldn't be too worried, she is, as of last account, 18.5 pounds and almost 27"! She is growing!!!

Amelia loves to play with her feet!

How yummy is that belly? I just want to gobble her up!

I was, for some reason, under the impression that babies get a little easier as they get older. But that is just not so! True, they get more fun to be with and their personalities start blossoming; but easier they are not! I am looking forward to getting to know her each and every day. Some days I want to peek into the future and see what she'll be like in 2 or 5 or 10 years. But I will have to be patient and live every moment in the present. A very good lesson. She is already teaching me to be a better person.

Each day is a miracle to watch Amelia grow and discover the world around her. You are a wonderful mother and share your love with Amelia and Eric in all ways. Dad and I are so fortunate to be able to watch as you raise your little girl. We love you and thank you for the special gift you have brought into our lives
