An ear infection, a birthday and then some snot!

Amelia looking a bit distressed.

Amelia didn't want to wear her party hat, so I wore it!

Amelia turned one. She happened to have yet ANOTHER virus, only this time it was accompanied by an ear infection. We went to the doctor a day before her party, on Friday the 7th of November. I was upset but decided that the party would go on. The doctor said that as long as she seemed ok, and we gave her something to keep the fever at bay, we could have the party.

I sent out an email to all the parents who were bringing kids, just to forewarn them. Only one mom decided not to come. Two others were either sick themselves, or their child was sick. Still, we had a great turnout and the party and Amelia prevailed!

On Wednesday, two days after her real birthday on the 9th, we had her 1 year appointment with the doctor. She weighed 22.5 lbs and measured 29 3/4 inches (though I think she's probably taller than that). At her last appointment, at 10 1/2 months, she was 21lbs 10oz and 29 inches. So she's growing and gaining, but, THANKFULLY, not at the same rate as before. My arm and back can not handle that kind of growth! At the doctor's office, she was fine, her fever was gone, her throat was back to normal, and, most importantly, ears were clear--sans antibiotics! We chose to see if it would clear up on its own, and it worked.

Well, wouldn't you know it.... 4 days later we all came down with a cold! WHAT???? We're still feeling the effects--lots of snot and some coughing--8 days later. My head is still in a fog and I wonder what I felt like before this cold.

Today we have two birthday parties to go to. Well, at least that's the plan. Amelia has other things in mind. She woke up late, which normally would be awesome, but today, it sort of disrupts the plan. 12pm Norah's party and 3pm Macai's. I guess one thing I've come to realize is not to really set anything in stone. Everything--time, space, emotions, life--is on a continuum. Very Star Trekkian, don't you think?
