Catching up

Ok. So I haven't written anything for a while. It's been much more difficult to write anything this last week than the first! Amelia is now 3 weeks and 3 days old. I feel like it was both yesterday and months since she was born.

Here are some events which have happened since I wrote last:

Can't remember the day but Mindi and I went to the Pump Station to weigh Amelia and so I could buy a nursing top. Things went well and we made it back home without incident.

I also tried on the sling a friend gave me and put Amelia in it. Unfortunately, my friend is really tiny and the sling barely fits around my waist. I either need to lose 10 more pounds, or buy a new one!

November 16th: Jen + Nick, Barry + Jackie visit the baby. It was Chris' birthday (the CEO of Eric's company) so some of the crew came over before the dinner. Eric went with them to the Chart House. I chatted on the phone for a while and tried to watch a movie but was pretty sleepy and ended up just relaxing with the baby while he was gone. This was Eric's first night out after the baby was born and my first night alone with her.

November 17th: My friend and mommy mentor, Dea A. came over with her almost 2 year old, Winter. She is really a great person to talk and makes me feel ok about feeling stressed out and insane. Thanks Dea!

November 18th: Amelia's ACTUAL DUE DATE! Instead, she's 9 days old!

November 19th: First trip by myself with Amelia. I finally made it to the Pump Station to participate in the breastfeeding support group. It was ok. I still need lots of help and think every little bit helps. I made it there and back.

November 22nd: Try to go on a walk in Santa Monica with Eric and my mom. It was getting late so we drove part way to Montana street and brought the stroller with us. Eric and I, in our sleep deprived state, put the adapters for the car seat on wrong, broke them. Eric and my mom drove home and I ended up walking home with Amelia because we couldn't put the car seat back in the car. It was a little adventure for me and Amelia...

November 23rd: Happy 2 week birthday Amelia! I can hardly believe you've been here for two weeks!

I was feeling good and a little stir crazy in our one bedroom so I decided to venture out. I went on my first trip to the grocery store alone. It was miserable!
The Sunday before Thanksgiving. Trader Joe's. Insanity! It took me longer than I expected to get there and back. My boobs were painful because I should have fed during the time I was gone and the baby was very upset (or so Eric told me) because food wasn't there. He ended up giving her some of the expressed milk we had in the fridge. I decided I wouldn't go on trips like that again unless it was RIGHT after I fed her and it's not not on one of the busiest shopping days of the year!

The 23th is also the day Eric's mom drove down from northern California for the week. His dad and sister flew down the night before Thanksgiving.

November 26th: Amelia had her two week doctor's appointment with Dr. Sachs. This went well. She gained weight and is now at 7 lb 11 oz. We managed to get up to and past her birth weight. Debra, the lactation consultant, had us give her a bottle after feedings and I think that made a difference.

Eric and I went on a walk today too. I STILL don't have a baby book and really want one. We looking in a few stores on Montana but the one store which had books, only had books starting around $75. Yikes! Who knew???

November 27th: Amelia's first Thanksgiving. I bought her this really cute outfit (the only piece of clothing I've purchased for her) but we never got pictures of her wearing it, except in the bouncer seat and you can't see the little turkey on the front! Bummer! She did really well at dinner and I think I see other loud restaurants in our future.

November 29th: My cousin Jeremy and his sweet girlfriend, Lexi, came over for a visit. They both adored Amelia (of course!) and I think they will make great parents some day (if they go that route...). I was happy to see them and glad they were able to fit us into their schedules.

November 30th: Amelia turned 3 weeks today! I can't believe it!
The Carney's visit to Los Angeles is over and, after some breakfast and a little time with the baby, the 3 of them head back to Los Gatos. The week went by so quickly!

December 1st: Is it true? Is it really the first of December? The last month of 2008. Wow. This is the day I make my way to Ocean Ave. for a walk and some exercise with Autumn, my friend who is a trainer and happens to be 7 months pregnant. It was really nice to get outside for a walk. I feel kind of silly with such a fancy stroller, especially when I live in a tiny apartment, but I will say, the bassinet feature is awesome! Amelia slept the entire time! It's so much easier to put her in that than the car seat when I'm just walking from the house.

It felt really good to do something other than sit! I feel like all I've done for the last month is sit and try and nurse. Walking is my salvation!
