Amelia had refused to nurse, after trying for 15 minutes, so I gave her over to Eric to bottle feed. That meant I would need to pump. Well, before I had a chance to do so, the power went out. I figured it would come back on shortly so I didn't worry too much about it. Luckily our laptops were fully charged and acted as a light source until we could light some candles.
Eric has always thought we own too many candles and told me I shouldn't buy any new ones until we had were gone. Well, well, well. Guess who's surplus of candles came in handy now? We lit all we had, mostly for the living room, but also in the bathroom, the kitchen and one in the bedroom. Amelia never batted an eye because we had her in the swing, which thankfully is battery operated! I actually hated that it was only battery operated but on Thursday, I was glad that it was at least battery operated! (Rechargeables of course!)
Ever resourceful, Eric used his iPhone in 3G mode to look up the electric company's number. They didn't know anything and didn't have any information for us. I called my parents and asked them to keep checking. Both of Eric and I had not charged our phones in a while and didn't have much juice. Of course, we could just go to the car and charge them but that would have been less adventurous. Instead, we lived on the edge and waited...
By the next feeding, around 3:30am, I was in trouble and needed to pump. This is where I started to think I could just run to Denny's and beg them to let me use a plug in the bathroom or something. Thankfully, it didn't come to that and Amelia was able to nurse some before getting discouraged.
The power finally came back on around 6 or 6:30am. It was a long night, but kind of nice too to have only candles and ourselves to keep each other company.
